Teachers and parents can accomplish a lot, but we can't always do it alone. The professionals below are available at school or privately to support students who struggle socially, emotionally and behaviorally.
Counselors and Social Workers at Lincoln Middle School
Peg Lane and Deb Mazjanis are the counselors at Lincoln Middle school. They support students and families academically, socially and emotionally on an individual basis or in small groups.
Lincoln also has two Social Workers, Kathy Randall, who works directly with Portland Public Schools, and Sarah Tremblay, who consults with us through Spurwink Social Services. Both Kathy and Sarah are available at school and meet with students individually or in small groups to support their social and emotional needs.
Local Psychological and Counseling Services
Dr. Christopher Kaufman, Ph.D., has supported students and families in the Portland area in a variety of ways. A former psychologist for the Portland Public Schools, he now has a private practice and consults with schools, students and families to support learning and behavior goals. His intuitive, positive, child-centered, professional and research-based approach is appreciated by many families in the Portland area and beyond.
Sweetser Mental Health Services provide support in times of crisis. If students and families are having an especially difficult day, or if an emotional crisis arises that is not a medical emergency, Sweetser can help. They provide 24-hour a day, 7-day a week support with trained crisis clinicians, by calling 1-888-568-1112. They also offer a variety of support for many mental health needs on their Programs and Services page.
The Center for Grieving Children offers support for families and children who have suffered a personal loss. Their staff is caring and their support groups establish and maintain strong communities of support.
